Over the past 3 years, Newcastle has played host to Duathlon (the triathlete’s winter version of triathlon). The Triathlon / Duathlon Gods were not playing last year and decided to park a HUGE ship (the Pasha Bulka) right near transition. This enormous creature soon became a “tourist attraction” and the area soon filled with spectators to witness this spectacle / disaster. With a decrease in the weather conditions and increase in visitors to the area, a “tough” decision based on safety was made to cancel the event.

We have emailed the Duathlon Gods and requested the weather and condition be kind to us on 24th August 2008 and that spectators will flock to see these athletes in action.

In 2008, the production of this event has been taken over by the team from Elite Energy, and we aim to raise the standard and profile of Duathlon and turn this event into The Newcastle Port Corporation Duathlon Festival. We will cater for ALL levels of fitness, from kid’s events to beginners to the elitist.

WestsWests now have entertainment each Friday and Saturday night from 8.00pm to midnight in the Marble Bar.

There are plenty of great places to dine at Wests including Brasserie 88, Emerald Gardens and our all new Beijing Buffet in the FoodCourt.

Balance Health are offering a 2 for the price of 1 pass for their fitness centres. Registrants pay one entry price and will be able to visit our gyms/aquatics centre twice. If you are not Wests members this is a saving of $20.
Please note - Mayfield has aquatics and a rehabilitation centre that is perfect for recovery sessions (fitness only at New Lambton).
